Hidden just round the corner from the ‘restaurant street’ in Santa Eulalia is a family run restaurant called Sa Carboneria. The small courtyard, decorated with beautiful, aromatic bougainvillea and trailing grape vines make this a romantic setting to enjoy a meal. Inside seating is also available for those colder evenings.
Tables are all laid in an inviting manner and we love the quirky touch of the jam jars laid on the table that are used as drinking glasses, a very eco friendly idea and a great talking point! The menu provides a variety of dishes to cater for all tastes, including vegetarians, however the main highlight of the menu are the meat dishes – well it is a steakhouse after all!
On our recent visit we ordered a favourite of ours, Iberico Ham, to start although the ‘Tapas to Share’ options were a temptation – the octopus carpaccio did also catch our eye and we’ve certainly earmarked this for next time. For the main course we could not resist the lure of the House Special – T Bone steak cooked by you, at the table on a hot stone, a unique idea that is not widely used in Ibiza but seems to be growing in popularity.
All the products used to create the dishes are 100% organic and the meat used for the steak is cured for 45 days. At approximately 54 Euros for 1kg, the actual price is dependent on the precise weight of the steak and is prepared for a minimum of two people to share. Accompanied by padron peppers and chunky homemade fries this is a feast in itself and you’ll need to be hungry to finish the whole dish. We also chose to accompany the meal with a powerful bottle of Rioja which was very reasonably priced at 14 Euros.
One of the great characteristics of dining at Sa Carboneria is that there is no rush and you are encouraged to enjoy the surroundings, food and drink at a leisurely place. This means that there is enough time between courses for you to try a homemade dessert. We chose the ‘Coulant’ to share which was described as a small chocolate cake with a chocolate centre. This is a similar concept to a chocolate fondant but the cake is extremely light which allows the liquid chocolate to be enjoyed as the piece de resistance! If you are a chocolate lover like me this will no doubt be heavenly and served with vanilla ice cream to balance the rich chocolate this is a dessert we won’t be sharing next time – one each will be the order of the day.
Sa Carboneria offers cuisine for all even though this is an authentic steakhouse. If you are looking for a quiet and beautiful restaurant where you can enjoy home cooked food then Sa Carboneria features very highly as a place to visit.
