       Hotel Es Vivé

Recently  members of the Ibizagastro team had the pleasure of enjoying a lunch at Es Vivé’s poolside restaurant. Here Annie describes details of their visit:

Just behind the main promenade in Figueretas lies Hotel Es Vivé, a secluded hotel veiled behind a smart white wooden fence. This elegant hotel has recently rejuvenated its menus and now welcomes non residents to experience the sophisticated yet relaxed ambience of the Poolside restaurant. Evenings are catered for in the stylish Deco restaurant.

The appearance of the poolside restaurant is both smart yet relaxed, the atmosphere was chilled and perfectly suited to a lazy lunch on a warm Ibiza weekday. The Art Deco finishing touches and general theme of the hotel also add an air of sophistication to the venue and it was clear from the  first  moment that great attention to detail  has been  taken  to   make  sure that diners and residents alike are made to feel comfortable. The service throughout was also attentive but not intrusive.

At first glance the menu offered general dishes that are available at many venues across the island, the reality however was a gastronomic delight both in presentation and taste.  I expected my starter of Serrano ham and tomato bread to be served in the traditional Spanish fashion however it was presented like a small work of art! Cubes of ham and bread combined, topped with a fresh tomato sauce which resulted in an intense flavour. Head Chef, Juan Dechecco, produces high quality dishes with the odd unexpected twist to keep the diner on their toes. His recent trip to northern Spain over the winter months, to study Spanish food, has influenced this year’s new menu and this was apparent as early on as the first dish.

Our waiter, Alex, displayed a good knowledge of all the dishes available and was happy to recommend wine to accompany our meal.  We chose a bottle of Quinta Luna that was perfectly chilled and accompanied by an ice bucket that ensured the last glass was as cool as the first.

Our main course choices consisted of a chicken, avocado and red onion salad  served with an anchovy  dressing  and cherry tomatoes and a Thai green chicken curry. The vibrant colours of the salad suited the fresh ingredients  which provided an excellent combination of flavours. The curry was accompanied by a small dish of jasmine rice allowing the star of the show to be the delicate flavoured curry.  It provided the perfect amount of heat to allow the flavours to be  enjoyed  and is a dish we would highly recommend.

For dessert we shared the cheesecake which will be ingrained in my memory for a very long time.  Creamy and smooth, this was a dessert to be savoured and I didn’t want it to end. Served on a slate platter it was accompanied with a pistachio powder and strawberry compote and was a perfect end to a long lazy lunch at the elegant Hotel Es Vivé.
